How to play Carrom

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Carrom. Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Read the objective before making your first input. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Play a casual Carrom match using the house rules shown here. Tournament penalties and multi-board match scoring are not used.

A careful first round

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Step by step

  1. White starts; set striker aim and power.
  2. Own-colour pockets earn another shot.
  3. Cover the queen with an own-colour man in the same or next shot.
  4. Striker fouls return one own pocketed man if available.
  5. Finish your colour after a covered queen.

Controls

Touch to aim; sliders set power and angle; striker-position controls and Shoot. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.

A useful example

Queen and own man in one legal shot cover immediately. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Keep the controls nearby.

Watch out for this

The last own man returns if the queen remains uncovered. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
