How to play Snake

Choose a round of Snake and settle into its rules. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Read the objective before making your first input. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Notice the feedback

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Notice how the game responds to your input.

Step by step

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Controls

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

A useful example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Notice the change in the playing area.

Watch out for this

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. Compare the situation with the worked example. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
